Another Great Meal at French Meadow

The French Meadow Cafe has long been one of Minneapolis' best stops for locally grown, organic food. Here's their "mission statement", from their website:

French Meadow Bakery & Café believes that meals prepared with the highest quality fresh, local & organic ingredients are the building blocks for a healthy & happy life.

An amazing bakery with a host of grocery store products to boot, the restaurant makes some of the best breakfasts in town. The pancakes (blueberry corn or strawberry almond) are a sure-fire hit, even with my kids, and my wife was especially liking the oatmeal last time we ate there, with apples, dried, fruit, and nuts.

The place does have a little bit of an attitude - hipper-than-thou Uptowners roll their eyes if you start asking questions - but I can't say enough about the food and baked goods, including a terrific tempeh reuben, veggie quesadilla, and the world's best hemp brownies (many of the desserts and muffins are fantastic). A good wine and beer selection rounds things out. It's truly one of the Twin Cities local treasures, a reasonably priced restaurant that sacrifices neither taste nor its own ideals. After my most recent visit, I brought home an $8.00 bag of some of the best granola I've had in my life. The grocery store items are fresh and delicious as well - and equally purpose driven. Here's what it says on the French Meadow product website:

Since 1985, French Meadow Bakery™ has used top-quality all-natural ingredients to create innovative healthy bread products and sweet goods known for their great taste, texture, and functionality. Our award-winning yeast-free, Gluten-Free, vegan, and kosher parve foods are certified by top agencies, and we use the latest nutrition research to create performance foods. We're committed to using ingredients and processes that help maintain the biological diversity and productivity of our planet's resources, and we support small organic farmers in our ongoing quest to create great-tasting baked goods for the health of your body, mind, and soul.

Definitely worth checking out. If you've been there (and if you live here, you have no excuse), please add a comment or your own review. I'd love to know what you think.
