May 24 Event at Riverbend Farm - Please Come!

riverbendGreg Reynolds, whose Riverbend Farm provides fresh, local, organic produce to many markets and restaurants in the Twin Cities (including The Craftsman, The Birchwood Cafe, and Common Roots Cafe), has asked for some help. I'm hoping that - together - we can provide it. Turns out it's time to plant some onions, and a small group of 10 - 20 volunteers can do in one day what would take Greg's normal crew 1-2 weeks. Here's the way the day is shaping up: Sunday, May 24

  • 9:00 - Meet at The Birchwood for free coffee and treats and to carpool/caravan. We'll leave by 9:20.
  • 10 am - Arrive at Riverbend Farm, just about 30 miles outside of Minneapolis (near Delano) for orientation and a “how-to” for onion planting.
  • 1:30 - Break for a tasty picnic lunch, provided by The Birchwood Cafe and Common Roots Cafe.
  • 2:30 - Farm tour, Q&A about organic farming with Greg.
  • 4:30 - Arrive back home in Minneapolis.

The event will be a terrific way to experience work on an organic farm first-hand, to learn about organic farming in Minnesota, to meet new people, and to pitch in and help out. Kids are welcome to attend (I'm planning to bring my 7 and 4 year olds). Greg will supply gloves and the riverbend11necessary tools. If you're coming along (and I hope you are!), please bring the following:

  • Water bottle
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Long pants
  • Shoes you don't mind getting dirty

There's no charge for lunch or the tour, unless you count about 3 hours of labor. :-) If you don't already have plans for Memorial Day weekend, I hope you'll consider participating. You can RSVP to me directly at lee@simplegoodandtasty.com, or by leaving a comment. Space is limited.
