"FRESH" Screening June 3rd at the Riverview

UPDATE: Tickets for the 6/3 showing of FRESH are now available at the Birchwood for $10 each. The movie FRESH, a food documentary by ana Sofia joanes, takes a look at the food industry through the eyes of some of our most celebrated farmers and thinkers. From the FRESH press release:

FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Among several main characters, FRESH features urban farmer and activist, Will Allen, the recipient of MacArthur's 2008 Genius Award; sustainable farmer and entrepreneur, Joel Salatin, made famous by Michael Pollan's book, the Omnivore's Dilemma; and supermarket owner, David Ball, challenging our Wal-Mart dominated economy.

FRESH is currently screening all over the country (a list of screenings and tickets sales can be found here). The first 2 Twin Cities screenings of FRESH, scheduled for June 2nd at Bryant Lake Bowl, sold out immediately. Tracy Singleton, owner of the Birchwood Cafe, has arranged for an additional showing at Minneapolis' Riverview Theater on June 3 at 7:00 to accommodate the additional demand. ana Sofia joanes will be in town for all of the film's screenings, and there will be a panel discussion afterwards, followed by a party at the Birchwood.

The Riverview Theater is located at: 3800 42nd Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 612-729-7369 In honor of the occasion, the Riverview will be featuring local Hope Creamery Butter on their popcorn. Tickets are $10, available online here. ana Sofia joanes has kindly agreed to let me interview her for this blog (coming soon), and I'm hoping we get to spend some quality time when she's in town so I can learn more about the project, why it exists, and where it's headed. In the meantime, here's the movie trailer:
