Launching the New Simple, Good, and Tasty

I couldn't be more excited to let you know that Simple, Good and Tasty is relaunching this weekend. Why? I'm glad you asked. Here goes:

In the 4 months since I started Simple, Good, and Tasty, I've gotten to know loads of people, organizations, and businesses that support local food. I've met people who want to eat better, families looking for a farm share to join, restaurant owners and chefs who want to encourage people to eat more sustainably, and farmers markets trying to increase awareness and sales. I've planted onions at Riverbend Farm, discussed community supported agriculture (CSAs) with the Governor's office, hired A Backyard Farm to plant a garden in my yard, cooked all sorts of foods I'd never heard of, and hosted monthly meals at some of my favorite restaurants.

But this is just the tip of the iceberg. In these last 4 months, a few things have become very clear to me:

  • Lots of normal people - like me - want to know how to eat better without having to change our entire lives, or feel guilty about every food choice we make.
  • Local, sustainable food experts are excited for the opportunity to share their knowledge and introduce people to great foods.
  • The Twin Cities is full of amazing restaurants, farms, food artisans, organizations, and events to help people connect with our food.
  • It's way too hard for normal people to find out about these events, and to connect with these food producers.

The new Simple, Good, and Tasty is an attempt to bring together all of the best information about local, sustainable, and organic food in the Twin Cities. To that end, we (friends, contributors, designers, and developers, including the dynamic duo of Stephen Eisenmenger and Molly Nutting at fivefivefour and my terrifically talented brother Mark Zukor) are launching:

  • The most comprehensive local food events calendar in the Twin Cities.
  • A directory, featuring local restaurants, farms, CSAs, grocery stores, and co-ops that feature local, sustainable, and organic foods.

Of course, we're just getting started. We don't expect the directory to be comprehensive from day one, and we don't expect the events calendar to be complete or perfect either. We think we're launching a reasonable starting point, and we're excited to gather all sorts of feedback from the people using the site. Our experience so far tells us you'll let us know when we make mistakes or when something's missing, and we thank you for that. We're counting on more of that kind of feedback to make the site better and better. We need it.

After this weekend - if all goes according to plan - Simple, Good, and Tasty the blog officially becomes Simple, Good, and Tasty the website. As you've seen from recent posts, our team of writers and photographers is growing, and the blog (covering the Twin Cities and beyond) continues to be critical to our long-term strategy. In the meantime, I thought you'd be excited to know that there actually is a long-term strategy. I can't wait to show you the new site.
