Local Food Roundup: Linden Hills Moving, Cheese CSAs, Big River at the Riverview

Shepherd's WayShepherd's WayThe cold weather hasn't slowed down the Twin Cities' passion for local food or the momentum we've got going here. Here's a quick roundup of some important news and activities:

Linden Hills Co-op to relocate and expand

Super great news from their member letter:

We are very excited to announce we have entered into an agreement to relocate and expand Linden Hills Co-op. The new store, located at the intersection of West 44th Street and France Avenue South (in the space formerly occupied by Almsted’s Sunnyside Market), is expected to open in early fall of 2010.

This relocation will allow us to better meet the needs of our growing base of members and shoppers while keeping our roots in Linden Hills.  In addition to being in a highly visible and easily accessible location, the co-op’s retail floor space will increase by more than 50%.  Based on member-owner feedback from comments  and surveys, we plan to open a full-service meat and seafood department and an expanded deli as well as increase our offerings in grocery, bakery and frozen foods.

Linden Hills Co-op is in need of member support in order to make the move a reality. If you are interested, please contact Tami Bauers, member loan coordinator, at 612-279-2467.

Shepherd's Way offers cheese CSA for cheese lovers

Shepherd's Way Farms is offering a fantastic opportunity to own a cheese CSA share this year. Here are the details, directly from Stephen Read at the farm:

Shepherd’s Way Farms cheeses are handcrafted on our farm, just outside Northfield, Minnesota, where we live with our four boys, Aidan, Elia, Isaiah and Maitias. The cheeses are made in small batches and many are nationally award winning.

Cost: A one year membership will cost $320.00 and a six month membership will cost $180.00. Members who belong to another CSA will receive a $10 discount. The first pick up will be next month, August 15th, which corresponds to Eat Local Month.

A cheese share is a great way to make sure you keep eating delicious local food throughout the cold winter months. For more information, including types of cheeses and pickup locations (including Lucia's, the Golden Fig, and The Birchwood Cafe), and signup forms, contact Steven Read at 612-306-4210.
