Thanks Amys! Amy B, I was sad not to drink Summit on a stick . What a great idea they had, and I'm sure the beer was delish. Amy R, good for you! The young woman seling the bacon swore it was local, and I believed her (why not?). It did look thick and tasty to me (like the sole of a very tasty shoe). Glad you enjoyed it.
OK, being utterly food-driven and prone to fits of "who cares where it came from I just want it in my belly", I did eat the bacon on a stick, and it was sublime.

Any info on honey's impact on blood sugar? I see so much conflicting info on why honey is a better sweetener than sugar and if a diabetic should have honey or none at all. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I didn't eat the bacon on a stick, either, although I considered it. I finally decided not to do it because the bacon looked too much like the sole of a shoe. Plus I didn't want to cheat on Tollefson's Family Pork.
In the International Bazaar, someone succeeded in putting Summit on a stick: three seven-ounce cups of beer riding in a stick/paddle thing that looked like a paint stirrer with three holes cut in it. Verifiably local, my favorite thing to drink, AND on a stick. 3 wins!
Yes, but unfortunately (due to kiddos and the folks we were with) didn't get to anything but the honey and wine area. :) I did so badly want to make it to the Sausage Sisters! I've heard great things about them...
Well, there's always next year (with hopes for better & more! Sigh, so typically American of me.) :)
Oh Lindsey, thank you so much for your great list. I'm heading to the fair tomorrow, so I'll need to check up on a few of those suggestions. I appreciate the tips. Have you been back this year?
Hi Katie, Thanks for your
Hi Katie,
Thanks for your note! Here are a couple of articles I found useful on the topic:
http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/is-honey-okay-you-have-diabetes.html, describing honey as a nutritive sweetener (meaning it has some nutritional value - and calories).
http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=96, which says that honey has been proven to be a good choice for type 2 diabetics. It also describes several of honey's health benefits, which sugar doesn't have.
I hope this is helpful!

Well, Lindsey, with limited time, you could have done worse than honey and wine. :-)
