Serving great, fresh, local ingredient packed sandwiches since Jim began with a street vending cart in the Summit Avenue area of Saint Paul in 1984. He sold toasted bagel sandwiches to University of Saint Thomas and Macalester College folks. In 1985 we were invited to serve our tasty sandwiches to the hungry early morning crowds at the downtown Saint Paul Farmers' Market. Fresh veggies from the market growers added to our sandwiches were an instant hit. Darn good coffee, fresh squeezed lemonade and the energetic market atmosphere still make for a great start to the day over 20 years later. The word was out on our satisfying sandwiches and in 1988 Golden's was awarded an annual spot at the Minnesota State Fair. Turns out bagel sandwiches with fresh veggies, cool cream cheese, smoked turkey, ham, or lox, along with sparkling fruit juices are a hit with the food-on-a-stick masses too! Due to popular demand, in 1998 we opened Golden's Deli and Catering in the National Historically Registered Northwestern Building downtown Saint Paul next to the Farmers' Market. Our walk-up lunch window on the street captured attention and business was good. We soon expanded our Deli to include an indoor seating area for lunch, and later an espresso bar was added for morning coffee fixes on the way to work. Currently our Deli includes monthly art installations by area artists, meeting space for groups up to 50, Organic Milk for sale from Cedar Summit Dairy, and a weekend indoor market of farmers' and artists' goods.
