Island Natural Meats

According to Beth Kearney - Located on Whidbey Island, Island Natural Meats believes in sustainable agriculture. Our cattle are given only grass and alfalfa; no hormones, grains or antibiotics will ever be a part of their diet. Our pastures are not sprayed with herbicides or pesticides. In addition, on our ranch, our cattle are rotated from one pasture to the next, to insure they are grazing on the best grass. Cattle are ruminant animals with multiple stomachs designed for digesting and breaking down the cellulose in grasses. A diet of grass develops lean muscle mass with little fat. This changes when cattle dine on grains which are not readily digestible by ruminant animals. Beef that is grass fed and finished can be compared in nutritional quality to that of wild fish because it contains alpha-linoleic acid (Omega 3) and extra amounts of vitamin E and beta-carotene. We do not use feedlots on our property. When it is time to slaughter a USDA inspector is on site along with a mobile slaughtering unit. We believe this is the most humane and least stressful to the animals.Island Natural Meat products are available at restaurants, grocery stores and farmers' markets. Limited delivery to the Seattle, Bellingham, and Pt. Townsend areas is available, with a minimum order. Out of the success of our beef, we are also producing grass fed and finished lamb, and pasture raised pork. These latest additions all meet the same criteria that are Island Natural Meats, respect for the animals, the land and our customers.
