Yay Jenny and CDC! You both do such great work! I hope Detroit is amazing. Thanks for representing us so well. I also hope everyone knows that CDC has an awesome youth garden program (they also have CSA shares available from their 7 gardens) and do really good community building and youth entrepreneurship work on the East Side.
About thirty years ago I build my first garden on a balcony, planting roses, blueberries, raspberries - plants I loved but was told would not work in containers. Of course, they worked. At one time, I had about one-hundred and thirty containers on a rooftop in Boston's Back Bay PLUS a compost bin.
Although I remain a skeptic willing to see other evidence, the Center for Food Safety is one organization which publishes a guide on avoiding GMOs. The group states that products labeled "100% organic," "organic," or "made with organic ingredients" are not allowed to contain GMOs.
Does organic always rule out GMO? I was told that a potato that was engineered to produce BT 'natural pesticide' was ruled by the US Ag Department to be 'organic' even though it had to also be listed as a pesticide due to the products the plant released...
please feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Great article Tracey! Can't wait to try the Prairie vodka-infused ketchup on a "bacon-infused" burger from Clancy's.
