Yeah, I agree, outside the co-ops and farmers markets, unverified food claims like free range, rBGH-free, etc, are pretty puffed up and quite meaningless. That's why I'm excited when people actually blog about this stuff and we can talk about it, share info, tear the claims apart, and carry that learning with us when we shop. So thanks for doing it!
Why am I not seeing grass, those cattle pictured are in corrals (no grass under their feet)? They might have extra cost with selling the finished product but that should also mean that they have more profit because they cut out the middlemen. Just to let you know I am an Irish farmer producing grass fed beef.
El Dragon: Be careful with that local, organic Cedar Summit milk! That stuff is expensive! (But worth it!) :-)
This is all very tricky, isn't it? So much of the emphasis on local/organic/free-range, etc. these days is based more on hype than authenticity. And the truth is so often hidden under layers and layers of obfuscation, designed to, well, hide the truth.
Thanks for setting me straight on Kemp's milk. Keep reading and keep keeping us honest.
She was at the St. Paul Farmers Market last weekend and I couldn't resist getting an order of chicken momos (chicken and vegetarian were offered). Both the momos themselves and her sauce were amazing! I had considered taking some home to share with the husband but I knew they'd never make it that far. I hope to see her in St. Paul on a regular basis as I'll happily become a regular customer.

Oh, I must go there--I'm in withdrawal from my favorite veggie momos. I get them practically every time I go to Mill City.
