site is great. When you get a chance, please email me

Wow, these suggestions for uses of fresh produce are brilliant! We get
so used to our industrial-food-chain diets, we forget to savor the rich
fresh flavors of summer. My favorite thing with fresh scallions (white
or purple): trim to fit in a 9×13 pan, toss with soy sauce, seasoned
rice vinegar, sugar, a bit of garlic powder (or crushed fresh garlic),
and a little light olive oil and sesame oil. Let sit for 10 minutes,
toss again. After 10 minutes more, toss again, and dump directly on a
very hot grill (they’ll steam like mad, so outdoors works best). Using
tongs, turn every minute or so, until limp and charred. Eat.
So are the munchkins getting a chance to try a few things right out of the garden yet? How cool is that?!
Very jelous that you are getting summer squash already! Here in NH we've had lots of rain and very little warmth so everything is on the slow side.... Lots of chard, beet greens & bunching onions though!
Thanks for the note, Amy. It’s funny how including different foods can seem somehow “wrong” to those of us who are trying to eat local. I can’t think of anything wrong with eating bananas - we still buy them, although they’re obviously not local - but it can be odd to see them at the market, I agree!
I get my CSA from Loon Organics at the Mill City market, and love going there. This weekend was my "non-CSA" weekend, so I went to Mpls farm market, and was sad to see pineapples, limes, bananas, and oranges--and strawberries from out of state. Think I'll stick with Mill City.
Late night happy hour
Barbette also has a terrific late night happy hour.
