This is a big local, sustainable, and organic food weekend in the Twin Cities, so I thought I'd dedicate this post to a few of the events I'm most likely to try and make it to this Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26:

Minneapolis Farmers Market The Minneapolis Farmers Market (also called the Lyndale Market on their website), one of the biggest, best and most complete in the city, opens this Saturday, April 25 from 6 am - 1 pm. The market was established in 1937, and is located just outside of downtown Minneapolis, at: 312 East Lyndale Ave North Minneapolis, Minnesota 55405 Phone 612-333-1718 The Minneapolis Farmers Market features all sorts of local produce, meat, cheeses, hot foods, honey, and other tasty (and beautiful) delights. It will likely be crazy packed this weekend (as it is most weekends), but can be a lot of fun - even with the kids - and affordable.

St. Paul Farmer's Market Not to be outdone, the St. Paul Farmer's Market - like most everything in St. Paul, less well attended but more fervently loved than its Minneapolis counterpart - starts its own Spring season on April 25 from 6 am - 1 pm as well. The St. Paul Farmers Market claims to have started in 1852, making it more than 150 years old. According to their website: The Market is operated by the St. Paul Growers' Association, Inc. The association allows only fresh, locally grown produce to be sold--directly from the grower to the consumer. Also available are bakery goods, cheese, poultry, buffalo, venison, beef, pork, lamb, maple syrup, eggs, bagel sandwiches, honey, organic plants and produce, flowers, plants, shrubs and many other items. 8th Annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Fair This fair offers a great opportunity to meet the farmers who run many of the CSA programs available to Twin Cities residents, to understand what each CSA offers, and to get in on one of the programs while there's still time and availability. CSAs vary in terms of price, length of season, offerings, drop off locations, personalities, etc., so this is a good chance to see what you're in for - and compare offers - before you sign up. The CSA Fair is on Saturday, April 25 from 11 am - 3 pm. It's hosted by - and located at - the Seward Co-op: 2823 E. Franklin Av. Although its doors have been open for a short while already, local institution the Seward Co-op officially celebrates it grand opening this Sunday, April 26 from noon - 5 pm, on the heels of the CSA fair. This event will feature local musicians, activities for kids (led by Articulture), giveaways, food samples, cooking demonstrations, and just about every other fun thing you can imagine, including a look at the co-op's new Hourcar. Admission to the event is completely free. I've heard fantastic things about the new co-op, and I'm very excited to get to the event. Once again, the Seward Co-op is located at: 2823 E. Franklin Av.
